Why Assuming Trauma Is Arrogance
Did your client "assent" to you assuming they've suffered trauma? My guess is not.
Assuming trauma is no different from the practitioner who assumes what a client is trying to say, so speaks for them. I thought speaking for nonverbal clients was harmful?
Practitioners with no education, no expertise, and no experience with Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder have no business deciding for others what they should do with children.
Theoretical assumptions = theoretical treatment. Don’t we think our clients deserve better than that?
Question: How is trauma-informed care different from an assumption?
Question: In what other discipline or field is assuming pathology beneficial?
Question: When your kid gets back from the park, do you greet him with Bactine, Band-aids, and an Epi-Pen? You know, just in case they’re hurt.
Hi Kayla,
I just started following your posts. Do you have a private email address? I don't know if this comment section is public, I have never used Substack before.
